30-Day Bhagavad Gita Study
Kshetra-Kshetrajna
Day 20
Field and Its Knower
“O Arjuna, know that I am also the knower within every body. Understanding the field and its knower is what I call true knowledge.”
— BG 13.2
Chapter 13 introduces one of the Gita's most useful maps. There is the field, called kshetra in Sanskrit, which includes your body, senses, mind, intellect, and ego. And there is the knower of the field, called kshetrajna, which is pure awareness itself. The spiritual path is slowly recognizing that you are the knower, not the field.
Reflection
Right now, can you find what is aware of your current experience? Not your thoughts about experience — but the awareness itself?
Today's Practice
In your next difficult moment today, ask: who is noticing this difficulty? See if you can feel the distance between the witness and the event.
