30-Day Bhagavad Gita Study
Two Paths
Day 25
Renunciation vs Yoga
“The giving up of activities based on material desire is called renunciation. The giving up of all fruits of action is what the wise call relinquishment.”
— BG 18.2
The Gita's final chapter opens by distinguishing two forms of giving up: sannyasa — abandoning all action — and tyaga — abandoning the fruits of action while continuing to act. Krishna says the latter is superior. True renunciation is in the quality of action, not its absence.
Reflection
Are there actions you have been avoiding in the name of non-attachment that are actually avoidance?
Today's Practice
Identify one responsibility you have been 'renouncing' that is actually yours to fulfil. Take one step toward it today.
