30-Day Bhagavad Gita Study
Purushottama

Day 22

The Supreme Person

I am seated in everyone's heart, and from Me come remembrance, knowledge, and forgetfulness. By all the Vedas am I to be known.

BG 15.15

Chapter 15 pictures the universe as an upside-down tree, called the ashvattha tree. Its roots are up in the eternal, and its branches spread down into the visible world. To become free is to cut through this tree with 'the axe of non-attachment,' meaning letting go, and to recognize where the roots really are.

Reflection

What in your life do you treat as foundational that is actually a branch — derived from something deeper?

Today's Practice

For one hour today, treat every experience as an expression of something deeper rather than as primary reality.
