30-Day Bhagavad Gita Study
Beyond Doing

Day 11

Inaction in Action

One who sees inaction in action, and action in inaction, is wise among humans — they are in the transcendental position.

BG 4.18

Chapter 4 introduces the most subtle part of karma yoga: the idea that a person can act intensely while, at the deepest level, not really being the one who does it. This is not an excuse to sit back and do nothing. It describes action that flows from clear awareness rather than from the ego's craving.

Reflection

Have you ever done something well — flowed through it without self-consciousness? What was different about how that felt?

Today's Practice

Choose a task today and notice the difference between doing it with anxious self-monitoring versus being absorbed in it with full attention.
