Chanakya Strategy Coach
Alliance Building
Day 16
How Alliances Are Made
Chanakya was blunt about alliances: they last exactly as long as both sides benefit from them, and not one day longer. A king who expects loyalty beyond that will be let down. A king who correctly spots real shared interests will have partners he can count on. The skill is finding the true common interest — not the surface-level one — and building an agreement that genuinely works for both sides.
Reflection
Think of an important professional relationship. What are the genuine shared interests that hold it together — and what might dissolve it if circumstances change?
Today's Practice
Before your next important meeting or negotiation, map the other party's interests — not their stated position, but their underlying interests. What do they actually need?
